Reasons Why The Igbo People Should Not Be Granted Independence(Opinion)

The Indigenous People of Biafra was formed in 2012 under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The agitations has been that the Igbos want to be independent and have Total control of their Nation as indigenous members of the Biafran Nation. Nigeria have not been able to grant them freedom for one reason or the other, if not, by now, they would have gone away from this country.

One of the reasons behind their agitations for self governance which I personally don’t blame them for, is the fact that their people are being marginalized politically and otherwise. If they have been given the opportunity to rule the country like every other Ethnic groups, the agitations for self governance would have mellowed down. It is practically unfair to deprive them of key leadership positions considering their contributions to this country’s national growth.

Sincerely, I don’t think they should be granted Independence for the following reasons;

  1. The Igbos forms part of the bedrock of Nigerian Economy.

When it comes to the Economy of Nigeria, the Igbos can never be undermined. That Nigeria Is rich as this today is as a result of the contributions and technical-Know-how of the Igbo people. We have a lot of businesses in Nigeria that are owned by the Igbos. These businesses have been helping Nigeria from time immemorial so letting them go would mean, we have to lose those Businesses here in Nigeria. Mind you, when they are to leave, they will definitely leave with their Businesses and channel all their Resources towards developing Biafran Nation.

  1. Relieving them might increase poverty in the country.

When you go round the whole States in this country, there is no State you won’t find the Igbo people. What are they doing there? They are all over Nigeria selling one products or the other, thereby making foods available for the people.

We can’t deny the fact that no one does the business of foods and other goods selling better than them. Letting them go might lead to scarcity of food thereby increasing poverty in the country.

In a nutshell, the Igbos shouldn’t be granted Independence because Nigeria can’t afford to lose them.

That is my humble opinion. Correct me if I am wrong. If you ask me, I will say Nigeria might not be able to survive without the Igbo people. What do you think?
