Over the past few days, our beloved South African country shocked the world, they turn what started as a protest to the biggest looting spree to ever occur.
The protests started in the province of KwaZulu Natal, as a way to support former President Jacob Zuma and a call for him to be freed and released from jail. Last weekend the people of his province began by burning trucks, cars, factories and ended up looting malls and shops.
The violence and looting got worst over the past few days, it also spread to the province of Gauteng. This is where a number of Malls and shops in Soweto, Alexander, Vooslorus and some parts of Pretoria were looted and damaged.
During the violence and lootings a large number of people were arrested, to date more than 1700 have been arrested and are currently in police custody.
Throughout the past days pictures circulated on social media, and a picture of an elderly woman being held by a policeman caught people’s attention.
The woman seemed shocked that she was arrested and many people on social media showed sympathy and felt sorry for her that at her age she is going to Jail.
There is a good ending to her story, she was found, got legal representation and she has now been released from jail.
