The death of a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Minna, Rev. Fr. John Gbakaan has been announced by the church in Minna. He was said to have been killed by gunmen suspected to be bandits while traveling back to his home in Minna.
After the sad news of his death was announced, Twitter users who are his friends and family before his untimely demise, stormed their pages to say their prayers for the gentle Priest.
One ‘Ugochukwu Ugwoke, ISch’ who is also a catholic priest said “Rev. Fr. John Gbakaan, a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Minna, was last night abducted and killed by some gunmen. In your charity Kindly join in praying for the repose of his soul.”
Another ‘Ogbedike Oluchi’ is said “Please Pray for the happy repose of the soul of Very Rev Fr John Gbakaan who was abducted and killed last night by unknown gunmen. May His soul rest in peace. Amen.”
There are incessant killings and abduction of people by bandits and gunmen in the Northern part of the Nigeria since about 2 years ago, which has led to the death of several people and the payment of ransom by many victims of abduction and kidnapping.
Recently, the joint military and police force ransacked the Kaduna-Abuja and Kaduna-Birnin Gwari roads to arrest and bombard the kidnappers hideouts in the bush, successes were recorded in the fight against them as their top leaders were arrested, as well as weapons were collected from them.
It is quite unfortunate to lose such a man of God to the gunmen due to the rate of the insecurity in the country, everybody is at risk of being abducted by kidnappers. Government at all levels should stand up against these abductors and killers that are giving the country a bad image.
