It must be recalled that the current Nationwide federal University strike has been on for the around eight months now, and during this period series of meetings were always held between the federal government delegates and their counterpart from ASUU but reaching a concrete agreement with has always been the problem.
But now, I happily bring to you that the meeting between the federal government and ASUU delegates that hold today yield a good fruit as agreement was reached in principles, below are the agreements.
- The federal government has yielded to the demands of ASUU by exempting them from IPPIS platform.
The earned allowance fund has been increased from 30 billion naira to 35 billion naira.
The education revitalization fund has also been increased from 20 billion to 25 billion naira.
Furthermore, after the meeting that lasted about seven hour with ASUU members in Abuja, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, also added that the federal government also agreed to ASUU’s demand to pay their members’ salary arrears from February to June through the old salary payment platform, Government Integrated Financial and Management Information System.
This is a welcome development, although it has not been revealed if the strike has been called off, but soon rather than later that would be addressed.
I therefore uses the medium to congratulate all federal Universities student of this latest development.
