The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, on Saturday, the 16th, of October, have confirmed to the press that its operatives have arrested a herder who attacked a 16- year old farmer with a machete.
According to the NSCDC spokesman, they identified the suspect as One Bugi Juli, who attacked the victim Abubakar Sulade’ s, by cutting his hand off following a confrontation between the two because of his over grazing land in the Kaiama Local Government of Kwara.
Reacting to the arrest, the NSCDC spokesman Babawale Afolabi, in a statement issued on Saturday, in Ilorin, said that the attack by the herder was part of the ongoing misunderstanding between herders and farmers in the local government which several reports have been laid by the farmers in the area.
Mr. Afolabi added that the victim decided to report the matter at the NSCDC Divisional office, Kaiama, after he was attacked by Bugi which a manhunt was launched immediately for the assailant and his accomplice in which they were later arrested.
The NSCDC spokesman said, ” There had been a long- term misunderstanding between two families over grazing land, which took a bloody turn recently.
” One family attacked another with a machete which resulted in grievous bodily harm on one Abubakar Sulade, 16, who got a deep cut on his hand, ” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Afolabi has confirmed in his statement that the victim had been taken to a government hospital where he is receiving treatment, while further investigations have already commenced.
He said that the NSCDC had increased its surveillance and patrol in the neighborhood to ensure peace and stability in the area.
The spokesman said their next plan is to invite the victim’ s families to a peace meeting so that everything will be resolved amicably without court involvement.
