An Islamic group, Ta’ awunu Human Right of Nigeria (THURIST) has asked popular actor and producer, Odunlade Adekola, to stop circulating his new film, ‘ Iku Ni’ .
THURIST also wants him to apologize to Muslims.
According to him, he unacceptably depicted Islam in the film, based on what he made a woman in purdah do.
Lawyer to the group, Sulayman A. Tadese, in an interview with BBC Yoruba, noted that it was wrong to be rubbishing Islam through film and theatre.
” We have written Odunlade and TAMPAN concerning how he defaced a woman in purday in the film. Film and theatre are part of what can cause crises. If it were in the North that Odunlade did what he did, things would have gone out of hand. ”
Tadese said THURIST had given Odunlade a week to bring down the movie and apologize. If he refused to do so he added, the group would take a step, which he had yet to reveal.
Odunlade Adekola is a Nigerian actor, singer, filmmaker, producer, and director.
He was born and raised in Abeokuta, Ogun State but from Otun Ekiti, Ekiti State. He gained popularity and was widely known for his lead role in Ishola Durojaye’ s 2003 movie, Asiri Gomina Wa, and has acted in multiple Nollywood movies since then. He is the founder and CEO of the Odunlade Adekola Film Production (OAFP).
