On Tuesday, 22 June 2021, an early morning downpour led to the leaking of the roof of Nigeria’ s National Assembly.
According to reports, cleaners had a hectic time scooping water from the floor which in turn delayed the sitting of the senators as water splashed to the lobby of the federal parliament.
The senators who resumed on Tuesday after a one- week break to mark the end of their second legislative year, were greeted with what many described as an embarrassment.
To this end, eyebrows have been raised as many Nigerians question the whereabout of the allocated N37bn for the renovation of the edifice in 2020.
It could be recalled that in 2020, there was a public outcry against the allocation of the N37 billion for the renovation of the National Assembly Complex which featured in the 2020 Budget.
Amidst this, Nigerians now raise opinions on social media after reports further said that the National Assembly’ s leaking roof got bad that it spread to the Press Centre in the Senate wing of the nation’ s apex legislative institution.
The Senate Chambers reportedly filled with water.
This stirred mixed reactions in the country as Nigerians took to their respective media handles to react.
A social media user @Kraigg79 said, ” They didn’ t renovate anything. They shared the money. ”
@Wee90199 said, ” Next to fall on them will be thunder and all sorts of assorted sicknesses and incurable diseases. ”
@Raymondnnamdi said, ” It was done on purpose. . . so they can ask for more money. ”
@Juby9ja said, ” Corruption, Corruption and endless corruption. This is the order of the day with these unpatriotic people.
The end will only come when there is a rebirth of Nigeria otherwise we will continue with. . . ” Off your mic, off your mic, it is okay, it is okay. ”
What’ s your opinion? Isn’ t this embarrassing?
