Members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, while trying to enforce the sit- at- home order declared by their leaders have killed a driver in Imo State.
Recall that the IPOB had earlier banned the social gathering or movement of people in all the States in Southeastern Nigeria. The group declared that Biafra land is not and will never be part of Nigeria, therefore, people of the region are not celebrating Nigeria Independence Day.
” IPOB has declared 1st of October 2021 total shutdown in Biafra land as a sign of our rejection of the evil construct called Nigeria and there shall be no movement in Biafra land on this day.
” Everybody must strictly adhere to these directives from IPOB leadership, we want to let the world know you that Biafraland is not Nigeria and shall not be. Don’ t say I don’ t know, a word is enough for the wise, ” IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful warned.
Some hoodlums suspected to by IPOB members while enforcing the statement made by their authority during Independence Day celebration reportedly killed a bus driver along Owerri- Umuahia expressway on Friday.
According to The Cable, the hoodlums also set the bus ablaze but five occupants were lucky to escape the killing.
A resident in the area, Chima Okoronkwo, who spoke to the newsmen about the incident said the insecurity in the state and the entire Southeast is getting out of hand. Added the government needs to take action before things finally go beyond control.
” This insecurity is getting out of hand and if urgent steps are not taken by the government things may get worse, ” he said.
Also, he stressed that if they fail to curtail the rising insecurity now, it could degenerate into total anarchy which will be brutal for the Southeast people.
His words, ” These senseless killings and attacks in the entire south- east should be curtailed now before it degenerates into total anarchy.
