The South-East geo-political zone is seriously pushing for the two top political parties in Nigeria, the PDP and APC to zone their 2023 presidential tickets to the South-East.
Many South-East politicians believe that 2023 should be the turn of Igbos to produce the President of Nigeria. Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi is one of those who believe that the South-East should produce the President of Nigeria in 2023.
Recall that he told Seun Okin of Channels TV that it will pain him if APC doesn’t give the South-East the opportunity to produce the President of Nigeria in 2023. Also, Governor Nyesom Wike alleged that Umahi left PDP for APC because he is nursing a presidential ambition.
Yesterday, Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma stated on Channels TV that APC is not interested in Igbo President in 2023. This might be a surprise to Umahi. That is why I ask if Umahi should return to PDP after Uzodinma revealed that APC is not interested in the 2023 Igbo President according to Sahara Reporters.
In my opinion, Umahi should not return to PDP because people may see him as someone who is over-ambitious of becoming the President of Nigeria.
He should remain in APC since he has a cordial relationship with President Buhari who he described as a father and friend.
Also, the benefits of belonging to the ruling party should make him stick to APC irrespective of what happens in 2023. I don’t think he should return to PDP because Governor Wike who he described as a dictator is much around and his influence in the party is growing by the day.
I believe that the statement of Uzodinma on Channels TV may not bother Umahi because APC has not officially zoned its 2023 presidential ticket.
He could just see it as an opinion of Uzodinma who is entitled to express his views. Although Umahi expects APC to zone its 2023 presidential ticket to the South-East, that may not happen because the region is a stronghold of PDP despite that APC controls Imo and Ebonyi.
