The Governor of Anambra State, Willy Obiano has summoned Security chiefs and bank managers to an emergency meeting at the Government House in Awka, the state capital.
The meeting was summoned because of the compliance of banks and companies to IPOB sit at home order against government instruction that all businesses and offices must remain open and operational as usual.
According to a report by Anambra State Broadcasting Services (ABS), the government instructed all banks and business not to adhere to the sit at home on Monday 13th September 2021, warning that anybank that didn’ t open on Monday will be shut down for one week.
Governor Obiano argued that the compliance to IPOB’ s sit at home is affecting the Gross Domestic Product and the overall economy of the state and cannot allow such to continue.
Therefore he directed security operatives in the state to ensure the security of lives and properties of residents and citizens of Anambra state under all circumstances and added that any bank that fails to open by upper Monday will be shut down permanently.
ABS quoted the governor saying ” adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure compliance, security patrol will increase around bank branches and other business ventures across the state”
Tje Governor also ordered all markets in the state to operate as usual, all commuter and transport companies must also run their businesses as usual and pleaded with the people to go about there normal businesses and have confidence in the security operatives to protect them.
He also instructed banks to forwarded all relevant information and complains to the commissioner of Police ” for adequate planning and entrenchment of security, as security operatives will be deployed early in strategic locations to ensure that people move about without molestation”
The sit at home protest instituted by the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB have been suspended but most cities in the South- East still comply.
