No less than twelve people have been reportedly killed by unknown gunmen who are suspected to be bandits at Sakajiki village in Kaura Namoda Emirate of Zamfara state.
According to Daily Post Nigeria, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mohammed Sheu maintained that the number of the people killed by the ruthless gunmen would have been more than that if not for the quick intervention of the security operatives that were deployed to the area.
Mohammed maintained further that the suspected bandits arrived at the village at about 9: 00 pm on Thursday and they stayed in the village for several hours before they unleashed terror on the residents of the community.
He said that no less than a dozen of people were killed in cold- blood when the assailants attacked the residents of the community. He noted that the operation continue until about 4: 00 am on Friday when they retreat.
The police spokesperson revealed that the gunmen incinerated many houses and shops in the community. Vehicles that were parked in the community including a police patrol van were burnt by the malicious gunmen.
Information gathered revealed that it is only the body of the people that were seen were counted and there may be some others that cannot be seen as the search for other people was ongoing.
The police tried their utmost to resist the people during the operation but the assailants were armed to teeth and they were able to bring the security operatives under control.
The PPRO noted that the commissioner of police in the state had mobilized more security operatives to the community as reinforcement to conquer the assailants and restore peace in the community.
He vowed to the residents of the community that the command will continue to making strenuous efforts to ensure that bandits and unknown gunmen are wiped out of the state.
