The Ebonyi state governor, David Umahi has asked the policemen in the state to protect themselves at all costs even as the state is daily plagued by a dose of insecurity from gunmen alleged to be members of the ESN and IPOB.
According to this article by Dailypost, the Governor made this known while receiving the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of the southeast zone, Joseph Egbunike, who called on the Governor during an official visit at the Government House.
The governor charged the security agents posted to the state to engage anyone who attacks them.
The governor also told the security officers that it was stupid for a fully armed policeman with a gun, to be killed and his weapon snatched from him
He further asked the policemen to defend themselves against any youth who had the guts to attack them at any time.
The governor also noted that he felt very ashamed that the attacks on police establishments were only carried out in the southeast states.
He wondered why this was happening even when the region was not in any war-like situation at the moment.
The governor also noted that the stakeholders in the region had organized a meeting for all the clans and the youths were educated but as it stands, some youths in the region are being brainwashed.
The visiting DIG thanked the governor for welcoming his team and pledged to do all he could to bring lasting peace to the state and the region.
