Sudan Refuses To Participate In Tthe Ministerial Meeting Of The Renaissance Dam

Khartoum attributed its decision to the ineffective method used in previous rounds.

Sudan decided to refuse to participate in the ministerial meeting of the Renaissance Dam, which was scheduled for today, Saturday, according to the Sudan News Agency, quoting the Sudanese Ministry of Irrigation.

Khartoum attributed its decision to the ineffective method used in previous rounds.

Sudan’s decision comes as confirmation of its previous positions, in which it called for the participation of African experts as facilitators of the negotiations.

Last Thursday, Egypt renewed, during the negotiations, its adherence to the necessity of concluding a legal and binding agreement on the Renaissance Dam, while Sudan demanded a change in the method of negotiation.

During the meeting, Egypt stressed the importance of resuming negotiations in order to reach as soon as possible a binding legal agreement on filling and operating the Renaissance Dam, in implementation of the decisions of the African Union bureau body meetings that were held over the past months.

Egypt expressed its aspiration to participate in the next round of negotiations that will be held during the next few days, in order to reach a fair and balanced agreement that achieves the common interests of the three countries and preserves their water rights.

For his part, Sudan affirmed during the meeting its adherence to the negotiation process under the auspices of the African Union as a means to reach a binding agreement that satisfies all parties, according to a new methodology that gives a greater role to the African Union experts to bring the views of the three countries closer.

The Sudanese Ministry of Irrigation stated that “Egypt and Ethiopia insisted on continuing negotiations with methods that reached a dead end in the past.”
