On Tuesday, it was reported that Sheikh Gumi along with his colleagues visited Sunday Igboho’ s hometown in Oyo state. During his visit, he stated that Sunday Igboho’ s community is a good place for Fulani Herdsmen and residents of the community would need to cooperate with Fulani Herdsmen for the sake of safety and peace in the region. Gumi also added that Oyo state is a peaceful place has he has been to many local governments in the state without any form of confrontation.
Reacting to his visit to Ibadan, Yoruba leaders stated that Gumi is a citizen and he has the right to visit any region of his choice as long as he is a citizen of Nigeria and he is not a criminal. At the same time, Yoruba leaders stated that Gumi’ s statement during his visit to Ibadan is provocative and it must be stopped from affecting the minds of southwest residents.
On Friday, the Yoruba security stakeholders association stated that Gumi’ s visit to Oyo state is suspicious. The secretary of the group, Gani Adams all ages that Gumi’ s visit to Sunday Igboho’ s hometown was to mock his person but residents and leaders of the region would not allow such a thing to happen. Also, Gani Adams stated that Gumi attempted to mock the efforts of Yoruba agitators with his unguided speech.
Part of the statement read ” Sheikh Ahmad Gumi is a Nigerian and as a Nigerian, he has the right to walk or travel to any place of his choice within the territory of the country. Meanwhile, it is important to know that Gumi’ s idea is always opposite to the reality in the country, and as such, we urge him to stop making statements that would lead to a crisis in the country. ”
” The stakeholders in the southwest have considered it necessary to organize a security group that would protect the region against any attack or invasion. We urged the security agencies across Nigeria to stay awake and be always ready to prevent any attack in the community. Any attack to invade South- West would be resisted by the people. “
