THE HEAVENS WEEP! ! ! Akwa Ibom Man Sentenced To Death By Hanging For Killing His Father With A Machete

The Akwa Ibom State High Court sitting in Uyo, has sentenced a 36- year- old man, identified as Victor Obot, to death by hanging for killing his father.

The court found Obot, a native of Ikot Obio Mkpong Ikono, in the Uyo Local Government Area of the state, guilty of killing his father, whom he accused of being the reasons for his misfortune.

The trial judge, Justice Okon Okon, while delivering judgement in the matter on Wednesday, said that there is credible and acceptable evidence that the victim died shortly after the accused attacked him with a machete, which was recovered on July 6, 202, from the scene of the incident on number 7C Abak Road, Uyo.

The judge also held that there was no doubt that the accused did not only intend to cause the deceased grievous bodily harm but also resolved to eliminate him for the nebulous, unsubstantiated allegation that his father was the cause of his problems.

The court also held that a man who stabs or inflict machete wound on another in the neck region is considered to have intended to cause grievous bodily harm or kill the person.

The court further stated that the intent to kill can be formed from the nature of the weapon used and the use of death threatening weapons in the sensitive part of the body like the neck, adding that the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt the essential ingredients of the offence of murder against Obot.

The trial judge said that the accused person betrayed his father and even the heavens weep over the senseless killing of the old man, whose death his son rejoiced over and saw as the beginning of his freedom from his problems.

Justice Okon said, ” The deceased did not deserve to die by the very hand of his own son.

” I hereby find you, Victor Etimeyo Obot, guilty of murder as charged and accordingly convict you. You are to be hanged by the neck until you be dead. “
