Hope Uzodimma, the Executive Governor of Imo State, has moved to recover some property and land unlawfully appropriated by former administrations.
The Governor inaugurated a committee for enforcement of white paper on lands and allied matters.
According to the Governor, the committee would be in charge of assets recovery as suggested by the Imo State Judicial Commission of Enquiry.
As he was speaking in the course of the inauguration, Governor Uzodimma stated: ” your primary duties are to recover for Imo people all the assets gazetted in the white paper as set out in the recommendations of the commission. ”
He noted that the inauguration had enlarged his administration’s rehabilitation, reconstruction, and recovery mantras.
According to him: ” The White- paper on lands and related matters is unambiguous– it is now an established legal fact that lands and properties belonging to both the Government and the people were illegally acquired or appropriated.
” This is so because all such illegal acquisitions were identified by the Judicial Commission of Inquiry. The government accepted these recommendations and thereabout issued a White paper, ” he added.
Professor Ukachukwu Awuzie, the committee s chairman, hailed Hope Uzodimma for the uncommon privilege, which according to him, was an unprecedented assignment.
The committee members are the Chairman, Professor Ukachukwu Awuzie; Chief Godwin Nwadike; Chief H. N. Ndi Duroha; Barrister Martin Iwuegbu; Chief John Onyenze and Mrs. Uchenna Onyeiwu Uba.
Governor Uzodimma’ s administration had recently impounded some property belonging to Rochas Okorocha, former Imo State Governor.
The ex-Governor Okorocha, who is currently the Senator representing Orlu Senatorial zone in Imo State, is challenging the move by Uzodimma’ s government in court.
Judgment on the matter is yet to be given.
