Six soldiers are said to have been slain by gunmen in Adani, Enugu State’ s Uzo- Uwani Local Government Area.
The troops were slain in the early hours of Tuesday, according to the PUNCH, at a military roadblock on the Nsukka- Adani- Anambra Federal Highway.
The gunmen attacked the checkpoint near Iggah/Asaba, according to a trustworthy security source.
The Nigerian Army acknowledged the attack and stated that the assailants were being pursued.
Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed the occurrence in a text message in response to The PUNCH’ s inquiries, accusing members of the Indigenous People of Biafra’ s Eastern Security Network of being behind the attack.
Nwachukwu, in a message headlined ” Troops repel ESN attack on their location at Adani, ” claimed that just two troops were killed in the attack before the hoodlums were repelled.
” Nigerian Army forces deployed to checkmate the activities of gunmen at Adani community in the Uzo- Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State repelled the Eastern Security Network gun attack on troops’ location at the Iggah/Asaba crossing yesterday (Tuesday), July 13, 2021, ” he added.
Unfortunately, two soldiers paid the ultimate price during the ensuing firefight. The offenders are currently being pursued by troops.
” We promise the general public that, in concert with other security authorities, we will provide adequate security in the general area.
” We also encourage members of the public to support security services’ efforts by abiding by the law and sharing relevant information on the fleeing gunmen. ”
