FC Chelsea luckily sneaked into the Semi Finals of the UEFA Champions League despite a 1:0 defeat to Portuguese Premier League side FC Porto in Seville with a 2:1 victory on aggregate.
FC Porto’s Medhi Taremi scored the only goal of the match with a stunning bicycle kick just four munites into the stopage time, but Medhi’s goal was enough for the Portuguese side to turn things around.
Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea started the fixture as heavy favorites thanks to thier initial 2:0 victory in the first tie of the clash, though both ties took place in Seville due to Covid-19 restrictions.
FC Porto did had a golden chance earlier in the first half when Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy controlled a back pass from Germany’s Antonio Rudiger straight to FC Porto’s winger Jesus Corona, who was instantly blocked down by Jorginho.
The first shot on target of the clash came from FC Porto just midway in the second half when winger Jesus Corona found Taremi in the box, but Medhi Terami’s header was easily saved by Edouard Mendy.
Awesome FC Porto impressed the football community when they eliminate Juventus in the round of 16 and really played thier best against Chelsea, but Taremi’s last ditch effort came too late in the clash and could not make any real impact or significance.
Chelsea just reached the last four of the competition for first time since 2014, after winning the champions league two years earlier.
After Chelsea made it to the semi final, The European Football governing body UEFA posted via it official Twitter account it reads.
“Chelsea have reached their 8th Champions League semi final, more than any other English side”, UEFA posted.
