The current Governor of the Imo State, Hope Uzodinma has been reported to have had mercy and returned the lands of the Imo indigenes, whose lands were forcefully taken away by the administration of a former governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha.

Governor Uzodinma who made this known through his deputy Placid Njoku, at a function, noted that even before he became a governor, he pitied those landowners when Okorocha was depriving them of their assets and vowed to return them if appointed as the governor.

Having been made the Governor of the State, Uzodinma expressed how happy he is to fulfill his dream and the promise he made on the assumption of office by returning the seized lands to their rightful owners.

According to him, he maintained that the Imolites were heavily pained by the action and the administration of the former governor, and he realized that the onlyway to pacify them is to start by restoring their lands.

He assured that his administration would never allow the helpless to undergo such treatment again. Noting that the ‘ era’ of forceful possession of people’ s properties by the government officials is ‘ over’ .

While expressing his gratitude over the restoration of the land, the Governor also congratulated and assured those whose lands were restored that his administration will continue to support and always do the right thing.

” At the time that I took over the mantle of leadership of our great State, the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Lands and Related Matters was already sitting. At my interactive session with the members of the Commission, I confirmed that the Commission should continue and complete it is work and I promised Imo people that I will implement the report of the Commission.

When the report was submitted on 1st June 2020, I immediately saw and felt the pains of Imolites whose lands were forcefully wrested away by the then administration. The Government itself was not spared on this land- grabbing madness. Government lands and properties were sadly converted to personal use by the management of the Senator Rochas Okorocha administration, their families, and friends.

In Orlu, all Government lands at the Government Station Layout and the Eastern Palm University were brazenly taken over by the same people that the people of Imo State entrusted with the sacred duty of protecting and preserving public property, ” he said.
