UPDATES💥! ! ! Fulani Herdsmen, Bandits In Serious Trouble As HURIWA Backs PDP Governor To Legalize Weapons For Vigilantes
HURIWA recalled that the government of Benue State had given its approval on Thursday to the formation of vigilante groups in order to address the high level of insecurity that exists in the state.
This information was shared by Governor Samuel Ortom with the press as he was briefing them on the results of the extended stakeholders’ meeting that took place in the Government House’ s newly renovated banquet hall.
In his address to the media about the outcomes of the meeting, Ortom said that the continued assaults on the people by armed herdsmen had overstretched the capabilities of the security services.
He said that the governing body of the state had made the decision to carry out ” the legislation to allow for the installation of community volunteer guards (vigilantes)” .
In order to supplement the work of traditional security organizations located all throughout the state, he said that the vigilantes would be organized on a scale ranging from the community to the government at the local level.
Ortom indicated that the process of recruiting would start right away, and he added that those who would be recruited would be between the ages of 18 and 50, with the majority of them being veterans of the armed forces.
” Every single one of the vigilantes has to be in possession of weapons that have valid permits in order for them to be able to protect themselves if there is an attack from the outside. “
