Ever since the federal government of Nigeria suspended Twitter operations in the country, the government of the United States of America has been urging the Buhari-led government to reconsider the suspension.
According to the US government, the suspension of Twitter operations in Nigeria is a direct infringement on the right to freedom of speech of the citizens. The Nigerian government has proved adamant to the calls for a reversal of the suspension.
The Nigerian government has given several conditions if Twitter is to be allowed in Nigeria, one of the conditions was that Twitter must be registered as an entity in Nigeria before they will be allowed to operate.
However, what the Nigerian government should reconsider is the likely negative effect of not being in terms with the US government.
President Joe Biden has announced that the United States government will purchase about 500 million Covid-19 vaccine doses and donate to low income countries across the globe by August this year.
The sweetest part of this gift is that it will be with no strings attached, it is not a loan or an exchange for anything but just a gift, this is amazing and from this list, you can see that Nigeria is one of the low income countries in the world.
This means that Nigeria is among the countries that will benefit from this gift from the United States.
President Buhari should not allow the Twitter issue to disrupt or spoil the relationship between Nigeria and the United States of America.
As long as there is a smooth relationship between both countries then Nigeria can be very sure of being part of thee beneficiaries of the 500 million Covid-19 vaccine doses that will be purchased by the United States.
