Viral Photo of Mwai Kibaki Visit to Elderly Sister Living in Humble Timber House Emerges (See Photo)
A viral photo of late retired president Mwai Kibaki visiting his elderly sister in her humble timber house has re-emerged online.
Kibaki who died a little over a week ago was laid to rest on Saturday, April 29, in his home in Othaya where he was accorded full military honours.
Besides his children and grandchildren, the late former president is survived by his elder sister Esther Waitherero who played a big part in raising a young Kibaki.
Contrary to what one would expect, Waitherero lives a humble life with her children. She still lives in a house made of timber despite the power and privilege that her late brother wielded.
And when a photo of Kibaki visiting Waitherero at her house emerged online, many were dumbfounded as they felt she was living too modestly for a sister of a president.
Social media reactions
The picture was actually taken in 2018 Christmas and it has shocked people as much as it did back then.

“Even if helping her sister was a challenge he could have secured jobs for his sons and daughters who could have made a better house for her sister.”
Joe Muchiri Msanii wrote:
“How on earth would I be president and my sisters are living in such a house.”
Karen James wrote:
“People are different. I don’t know I’d have built a good house for my sibling.”
Sharon Lundu said:
“But the sister has never complained about it, who are you to complain on her behalf?”
