It’ s going around the internet right now because of a viral video in which a female preacher known as Pastor Funke can be heard suggesting that Joseph only made friends with wealthy people. During a sermon, the Pastor made the statements while encouraging her church members that they should abandon every acquaintance with whom they are wealthier.
As an example, Pastor Funke said that members of her church should look around them and cut off any ties with friends who are wealthier than them, and instead form relationships with people who are wealthier than them.
For evidence, Pastor Funke Adejumo related the tale of Joseph from the Bible, claiming that Joseph only made friends with wealthy people while he was imprisoned, and that Joseph only made friends with wealthy people while he was in prison.
In his sermon, Pastor Funke Adejumo claimed that Joseph had made friends with the Butler and the Baker, both of whom were wealthier than he was.
However, by examining the relevant Bible scriptures, it is possible to conclude that Joseph did not seek out to make acquaintances who were wealthier than himself when he was in prison.
For example, the Bible tells that Joseph was a wealthy man while living in Potiphar’ s household. ” And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man, and he was at the house of his master the Egyptian, ” the Bible says in Genesis 39: 2, referring to Joseph’ s situation.
Furthermore, the Bible reports that while Joseph was imprisoned, he was also placed in charge of the other inmates, including the Butler and the Baker, according to the Book of Genesis.
Moreover, the Bible states in Genesis 39: 22, ” And the keeper of the jail committed to Joseph’ s hand all of the inmates who were in the prison; and whatever they did there, he was the doer of it. ”
Therefore, it is obvious from the Biblical scriptures that Joseph was not poorer than the Butler and Baker, so it may be incorrect to assert that he only became friends with them because they were wealthier than he.
