Why Fed Govt May Not Grant License To Benue Corps, Amotekun To Aquire AK47 To Fight Insecurity
It is no longer news that the level of insecurity across the country has become an issue that needs urgent attention.
A few days ago, President Buhari declared total war on terrorism and Banditry when he ordered the service chiefs to show no mercy to those threatening the peace of the country
Moreso, Governors across all regions have been deploying all means to safeguard their territories hence the creation of state corps like the Amotekun, Benue Corps, Zamfara security guards, Ebubeagu, and the likes to ensure safety and security
However, what seemed like an issue for the aforementioned security outfit to efficiently discharge their duty is the need for sophisticated firearms
It would be recalled that the Benue state Governor, Samuel Ortom, on Thursday while unveiling the state security outfit in Markurdi, pledged that he would get Ak 47 and Ak49 for the security personnel to effectively and efficiently discharge their duty.
Also, When Governors in the southwest unveiled Amotekun, they stated their plans to arm the officers but nothing has been done

According to Punch, the request to arm them with sophisticated firearms may not be granted by the FG because, since 2013, the embargo on Fresh firearms licenses imposed on the police have not been lifted
