Former Governor of Rivers State and serving Minister for Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, flagged off the construction of the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri Rail project in Rivers State on Tuesday. The event was attended by many influential Nigerians including Governors and ministers. The rail line will connect about ten States of the Federation when it is completed.
However, the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, was intentionally absent at the event. It was gathered that Wike was invited but he refused to show up at the ceremony.
The reason why he was absent at the event could be because he also commissioned another project in the state yesterday. The Governor opened the Real Madrid Football Academy in Port Harcourt on Tuesday. The minister for Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare, disclosed this on his Twitter account.
He said: Football history and youth development docked in PH today as Gov. Nyesom Wike opens up the Real Madrid football Academy, RMFA, PH. A step in the right direction. Gov. Wike has shown the way. Let others follow”
The new project has generated different reactions among Nigerians on social media, see some reactions below.
