A Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has remanded a 12-year-old girl in the Port Harcourt Remand Home for telling the court that she willingly eloped and had an affair with her 38-year-old boyfriend. According to Linda Ikeji Blog, the girl whose name was withheld for security reason stated that the suspect is not her first boyfriend, so he was not the first person to have an affair with her.
The suspect, who was identified as Alfred Chikere, 38, was initially arrested by the Rivers State Police Command for allegedly abducting the 12-year-old girl for over a month in his house. He was later arraigned before the Magistrate in Port Harcourt and slammed with two charges of abduction and defilement of the young girl.
Initially, the case was withdrawn by the girl’s parent after the suspect gave them a sum of N40,000 to do so. But a human right activist, John Miller insisted that the suspect must be prosecuted at the magistrate court. Chikere was sent to jail until his bail application is granted by the chief judge of the court.
