World War 3 Fears Surge: North Korea Could Test Nukes To Mark Joe Biden’s Inauguration

It comes after Democratic candidate Joe Biden has been announced the winner of the US election. Last year, North Korea labelled Mr Biden a “rabid dog” who “must be beaten to death with a stick”.

Pyongyang’s official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) previously said Mr Biden “reeled off a string of rubbish against the dignity” of the North’s supreme leadership.

The state-run news agency added that Mr Biden’s acts deserve “merciless punishment”.

Experts have warned that North Korea could conduct nuclear tests around the new president’s inauguration in a bold move.

Evans Revere, from the Council on Foreign Relations, told Time.com: “It is possible Pyongyang will conduct a nuclear or long-range missile test prior to the inauguration or shortly thereafter.”

He added that the move would be the North Korean leader’s way of “laying down a marker with the new president and increasing its negotiating leverage with Washington”.

Mr Revere explained how Mr Biden will take a different approach to North Korea than Donald Trump’s administration.

He said: “The Biden team will be mindful of the failings of Trump’s approach, which has amounted to turning a blind eye to North Korea’s steady accumulation of nuclear weapons and testing of medium-range missiles.”

Some experts believe that Mr Kim could soon increase tensions with America over the election result.

During the final presidential debate in October, Mr Trump repeated how his administration has a good relationship with Pyongyang.

He said: “North Korea? We’re not in a war. We have a good relationship. People don’t understand—having a good relationship with leaders of other countries is a good thing.”

But North Korea’s relationship with Mr Biden seems to have already started on a rocky foot after the state-run media blasted the former US Vice President over his comments of Mr Kim.

KCNA said: “Rabid dogs like Biden can hurt lots of people if they are allowed to run about.

“They must be beaten to death with a stick, before it is too late.”

The brutal blast came after Mr Biden labelled the North Korean leader as a “tyrant”, comparing him to Hitler.

In October, Mr Kim revealed a new intercontinental ballistic missile during a military parade which experts have said could kill at least 1.5million people in seconds.

Last week reports claimed that North Korea is building a doomsday nuclear submarine capable of wiping out enemy targets.

Ha Tae-keung, of South Korean parliament’s intelligence committee, told Reuters: “One of the submarines North Korea is building can carry a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM).

“One is a modified Romeo Class and the other is a new medium-large size one.”
