The continuous aerial and ground assaults on bandits by the NigerIa Joint Military Task Forces (JTF) as they take the war to the criminal elements in forest hideouts in Zamfara, where banditry is at an all- time high, are nothing new.
It is worth noting, however, that the military assaults have been extremely successful. The murders, arrests, and destruction of the bandits’ hideouts and strongholds that have been reported so far testifies to this.
Aside from that, a large number of them had surrendered to the military. One of the most significant achievements has been the capture of some of their top leaders. Turji Kachalla, for example, declared once that he had enough fighters and weaponry to defy Nigeria’ s military strength. Auwal Aliyu is the other (Dankali).
Boko Haram Terrorists Made Borno State And It’ s Forest Their Headquarter And Stronghold
While the Boko Haram terrorists’ headquarters are in Borno State, Zamfara has been known as the worst- affected state in the country by bandits. It’ s also a state in the northwestern United States.
However, because the federal government has been shelling them with troops for the past week, many of those who have managed to flee have reportedly migrated somewhere to continue their journey from Zamfara.
Killing Of Yele Sowore’ s Brother, Kidnapping Of Rev Emma Ayanwu And Activities Of Killer Hersdmen Shows Terrorist Like Ondo As Stronghold
Meanwhile, kidnappings and killings appear to have increased in recent years along the Ondo- Benin express road and within Ondo State. For example, Olajide Sowore, the younger brother of Omoyele Sowore, the founder and proprietor of Sahara Reporters, was purportedly slain by a bunch of them just a week ago.
The same robbers are also accused of kidnapping a number of other people, including Reverred Sister Emmanuella Ayanwu, who managed to flee. In other news, there have been reports of more killings and kidnappings of tourists and residents of the state.
Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has now signed the famous Anti- grazing Bill into law, despite the fact that members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of NigerIa (MACBAN) have been at odds with him as a result.
So, based on the foregoing, it remains to be seen if the bandits, also known as marauders, are attempting to invade the South- Western state of Ondo, like they did in Zamfara State. Governor Akeredolu, on the other hand, remains in control of the situation.
In Bid To Make Ondo Their Headquarter, Herdsmen Convert Ondo Govt Forest Reserve Into Militia Camp
Herdsmen have turned the Ondo Government reserve in the Odigbo Local Government Area into a militia camp, according to new information released on Saturday.
This evidence bolstered the widely held belief that the killers of Mrs Funke Olakunrin, the 58- year- old daughter of Chief Reuben Fasoranti, the leader of the pan- Yoruba socio- cultural organization Afenifere, were herdsmen who sneaked out of the reserve and opened fire on the vehicle she was traveling in.
On Friday, Olakunrin was slain when gunmen ambushed vehicles on the highway and kidnapped some commuters. During the attack, her maid allegedly received bullet wounds.
According to residents, the killers of Fasoranti’ s daughter had a base in the forest. Boluwaji Kunlere, a former senator who represented Ondo South Senatorial District in the Senate, said hoodlums have been operating in the area where Olakunrin was killed for some time. In a conversation with one of our Lagos journalists, he stated this.
” When I was in the Senate, I tightened up security in the area, ” Kunlere said. In the Ondo South Senatorial District, I supplied 13 Hilux vans to police divisions and motorbikes to the Department of State Services for monitoring.
” I believe the police force is insufficient to provide proper security in the region. The biggest issue is the expressway (Benin- Ore- Sagamu Expressway). The location where they slaughtered Baba Fasoranti’ s daughter (Kajola) is shared by the Odigbo and Okitipupa Local Governments.
” People who live near the location reported Fulani herdsmen had taken over the area, and that once a bishop was kidnapped and freed by the police in that area. The forest is strewn with herdsmen. Between Omotosho and Igbotako, we notice them. They graze their cows beside the road and then strike, fleeing into the jungle. ”
ANOTHER CLEAR FACT! Amotekun Evicts Another 137 Northerners From Ondo Forest
The state security outfit dubbed Amotekun has once again removed 137 northerners from the forest reserves in Ondo state.
Those that were evicted were living in the Elegbeka forest reserves on the Ifon- Owo route.
Chief Adetunji Adeleye, the state commander of Amotekun, told journalists in Akure that the group’ s continuous occupancy of the forest reserve posed a security threat to the state.
All unlawful forest dwellers would be removed out of the state to their origins, according to Adeleye.
” We received intelligence that a large number of persons bombarded (forests) in the Elegbeka– Ifon area of the state. We stepped in and asked the majority of them where they were from, and they claimed they were from the north of the country.
” When we inquired about their mission, they were unable to provide us with a clear picture of their purpose.
” We took some of them (to Akure) and their sponsors here to Amotekun’ s headquarters for full investigation, ” he said.
